If you have a friend who plans on taking the class, consider buying the book together. This works particularly well if you are going to take the class in different semesters so you don't have to worry about ever needing the book at the same time.

With all the options available to you, there is no need to ever pay full price for college textbooks. You might have to quest for a good deal, but a miniature bit of time spent searching in the beginning can save you a lot in the end.
